Message of condolence on the passing of Mr. Lin Shu-Yang, staunch anti-imperialist and fighter for the working class
Prof. JOSE MARIA SISON
Chairperson, International League of Peoples’ Struggle
We, the International League of Peoples´ Struggle (ILPS), send our sincerest condolences to the family, comrades and friends of Mr. Lin Shu-Yang. He bequeaths a legacy of uncompromising stand for the rights of workers, resolute opposition to imperialist military intervention in Taiwan’s affairs and in the world, and active international solidarity with workers and all oppressed peoples.
He left a remarkable trail of leadership as the honorary chairperson of the Labor Party (LP) in Taiwan, chairperson of the Labor Rights Association (LRA), founder of the Taiwan Political Prisoners Association and chairperson of the Chinese Reunification Alliance.
Mr. Lin actively led campaigns for the issues affecting the workers in Taiwan, including the migrant workers. Migrant workers have enjoyed various forms of support from the LP and the LRA, including advocacy of rights, active defense against anti-worker and anti-people policies in Taiwan, and legal and other forms of assistance to migrant workers whose rights have been violated by their employers.
As an anti-imperialist, Mr. Lin led opposition to imperialist aggression and military intervention and stood for the resolution of the conflict between Taiwan and China. He was a stalwart in the regional and international movement against US military expansion and consolidation in the Asia-Pacific region.
In the midst of the intensifying crisis gripping imperialist countries, the United States has become more aggressive in asserting its military hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region. We can expect more sabre-rattling, intervention and attacks from the US as it seeks in vain to suppress anti-imperialist and revolutionary movements in the region, contain the growing influence of China and prevent the decline of US imperialism.
We, the ILPS, join the working class and people of Taiwan in upholding Mr. Lin’s legacy and memory. We are confident that his colleagues and comrades in the Labor Party, in the Labor Rights Association and in the host of other formations he led will continue to be inspired by Mr. Lin and will carry forward the anti-imperialist struggle in order to bring about a future of greater freedom, social justice, prosperity and peace.
Long live the legacy of Lin Shu-yang!
Defeat imperialist aggression and intervention!
Long live international solidarity!
