By ILPS Netherlands Chapter
The Netherlands Chapter of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle joins the rest of the world in expressing enormous grief and condemning in the strongest possible terms the abduction, torture and brutal murder of Mexican revolutionary youth leader Gustavo Alejandro Salgado Delgado of the Frente Popular Revolucionario. He was abducted on the night of 3 February 2015 in the Municipality of Villa de Ayala, Morelos State, and found in the early evening of the following day – hogtied, heavily tortured, and decapitated.
Only 32 years old, Gustavo had been resolute and militant in pushing for education curriculae reforms, defending the people’s right to the land, upholding workers’ rights to employment and just wages, fighting against destructive “development projects”, and upholding indigenous peoples’ rights. Because of his involvement in the popular movement for social change, Gustavo had been victimized by the harassment, intimidation and unjust detention of state security forces. It is thus not surprising that the people suspect the complicity of the State of Morelos and the Mexican Government in this heinous crime.
We support the call of the family, friends and colleagues of Gustavo for the Mexican government to conduct a full, impartial and transparent investigation into this despicable crime. We support the mobilization of the people of Mexico in seeking justice and carrying forward Gustavo’s cause for national and social liberation.
ILPS member organizations in the Netherlands will utilize various channels of communication in spreading awareness among the Dutch people about the abduction, torture and brutal murder of Gustavo. Likewise, we will launch various forms of action to pressure the Mexican government into apprehending, prosecuting and punishing the criminal masterminds.
