Whereas, for the past three years the Syrian Arab republic has been the target of a brutal proxy war sponsored and funded by us and west European NATO powers in alliance with the Saudi monarchy and other reactionary monarchies of the Arab gulf as well as the apartheid state of Israel;
Whereas, this war has to date taken the lives of 150,000 Syrians, driven millions from their homes and laid waste to much of that ancient country and has seen horrendous atrocities by western-backed terrorists, as Washington, its allies and agents seek to provoke a wider sectarian war in Lebanon and across the entire Arab world for the profit of wall street bankers, multinational oil corporations and the us military-industrial complex and to gain control over the Mediterranean littoral, which is the most cost-effective route to bring the oil of the Arab/Persian gulf to the west; and
Whereas, the war against Syria is the continuation of a long and bloody war waged against the democratic and nationalist movement of the people of the middle east and north Africa, a war that has included the creation of the apartheid state of Israel on the land of the Palestinian people, the numerous wars the us-armed and -funded Israeli state has waged against its neighbors, the CIA’s overthrow of the elected government of Iran in 1953 and restoration of the tyrant shah to the throne, the 23 years of war and sanctions against the people of Iraq and the NATO bombing of Libya and destruction of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, its many atrocities.
Therefore, be it resolved that the International League of Peoples’ Struggle stands in solidarity with the Syrian people against US and EU imperialism, its agents and proxies who seek to inflict on Syria the same fate they have inflicted on the people of Iraq; and
Be it further resolved that we demand an end to the imperialist war against Syria, including an end to economic sanctions, the immediate withdrawal of the 5th and 6th Fleets from the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean and an end to all imperialist intervention and military presence in West Asia and North Africa.
