13 March 2010
It has been seven years since Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old US peace activist, was killed by an Israeli army bulldozer as she tried to prevent it from demolishing Palestinian homes in Rafah, Gaza. This March 2010, the family of Rachel is taking the Israeli government to court, seeking the justice that has been denied for too long.
In those seven years the Palestinian people have never stopped struggling for justice, for basic human rights and the right to live peacefully with dignity in their homeland.
This, despite the fact that over those seven years the Israeli government has continued its expansionist and reactionary policies: invading Lebanon, killings thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, extending its illegal wall, threatening to attack Iran and expanding settlements on Palestinian land.
The White House recently condemned Israel’s approval of 1,600 new settlement homes on Palestinian land in East Jerusalem as US Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Israel, purportedly to jumpstart Mideast “peace” talks. But the replacement of the Bush regime by the Obama administration appears to have changed little except the rhetoric. Despite this slap on the wrist, Washington has shown absolutely no intention of cutting back its multi-billion dollar financial, military and political support to this imperialist outpost in oil country.
Whereas the Israeli Zionist regime continues its expansionist policies and denies the Palestinian people their fundamental human and national rights;
Whereas the imperialist powers led by Washington continue to back this reactionary regime;
Whereas, over 60 years after the Naqba or forced removal from their lands, the Palestinian people continue to bravely use all forms of struggle to fight for their demands for justice and liberation and an end to oppression and colonization;
Be it resolved that the ILPS calls on its members to:
Demand an immediate end to the illegal settlements;
Demand the destruction of the illegal Israeli wall;
Condemn the support of the US, France, the UK and other imperialist powers for the colonial apartheid entity known as Israel;
Participate in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign put forward by the Palestinian people;
Provide full support for the struggle of the Palestinian people for justice and national liberation and their right to live peacefully and with dignity in their Homeland.
