ILPS International Coordinating Group successfully holds meeting, 12 – 13 March

The International Coordinating Group of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle successfully held its meeting on 12-13 March 2010 in The Netherlands with preparations for the Fourth International Assembly and the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the founding of the ILPS as the main points on the agenda.

The Chairperson, Prof. Jose Maria Sison, declared a quorum, with three members participating via video conference (Skype), and the Body approved the agenda.

The ICG officers reported on their respective areas of responsibility, with the Vice Chairperson for Internal Affairs, Dr. Carol Araullo, stating that although most major Commissions have already established a secretariat, there is a need to further develop and strengthen the work of the Commissions.

On the Fourth International Assembly (4th IA) of the ILPS, the ICG approved the proposal to hold the Assembly in the Philippines in May 2011. Vice Chairperson Dr. Araullo warmly accepted the honor for the Philippines to host the 4th IA.

A meeting of the International Coordinating Committee (ICC) will be called for the 3rd quarter of 2010 to approve and finalize plans in preparation for the 4th IA, to be preceded by an ICG meeting.

Updates were presented on the ongoing campaigns against Operation Green Hunt and Militarization and Displacement in India, against Human Rights Violations and in support of political prisoners, and the campaign of Committee DEFEND in support of Prof. Jose Maria Sison. A report was also presented on the preparations for the ILPS-initiated International Women’s Conference to be held in Montreal this August 2010, which will also mark the founding of an International Women’s Alliance.

The ICG processed and approved the new applications for membership to the ILPS of organizations coming from Italy and India.

The ICG approved the following resolutions:

  1. Resolution on US Intervention and Militarization
  2. Resolution on the Ampatuan Massacre of Lawyers, Journalists and Innocent Civilians – Philippines
  3. Resolution on the Arrest of Medical and Health Workers – Philippines
  4. Resolution Supporting the Greek Masses Struggle Against Pasok Austerity Measures – Greece
  5. Resolution on Israel’s Expansion of Its Illegal Settlement – Palestine
  6. Resolution on Persecution of Political Activists Supporting Workers Strike – Turkey
